High Water

Drawing robots in our notebooks
Ten years old and happiness was no mirage
In later years we'd try to write some hooks
Three loud chords in your garage
Those days were long ago
Dark times we're living in
Fraying edges start to show
Where ideals and dreams had been

But if the water's getting high
If trouble's closing in
You need somebody on your side
I'm already running if you're calling
I'm already running if you're calling

People drift apart
It's part of growing up, part of moving on
But in matters of the heart
We all need someone to lay our troubles on
I've been blessed with friends
That don't fade with distance, don't fade with years
New things begin and others reach their ends
These bonds will hold through tears, through fears

And when the water's getting high
When trouble's rolling in
When you need somebody on your side
I'm already running if you're calling
You call on me, you know that I'll be right there by your side

Do you remember
That first year in middle school jazz band
All our improv solos
So meticulously planned
I still remember

So when the water's getting high
When trouble's rolling in
When you need somebody on your side
I'm already running if you're calling

When the water's getting high
And trouble's rolling in
I'm on a plane
I'm on my way

When you need somebody on your side
Call my name
I'm already running if you're calling

As the years fly by
I'm always on your side
Call me day or night
And I'm already running if you're calling

When you need somebody on your side
I'm already on my way
