Landlocked
I grew up just minutes from the ocean
But I’ve been living in the shadow of these mountains for a long time
A thousand miles away
And if I’m being honest, it’s not the beach I miss
(Who wants sand all up in everything)
It’s just the notion of the ocean
That’s pulling on my heartstrings
Or maybe it’s the motion of the ocean
I can’t stop remembering
I’m feeling landlocked
Got to get back down to the sea
I want to feel the boardwalk, weather-beaten, under my feet
And I don’t miss the heat, but the feeling is sweet
It reminds me of the kid I used to be
So drop what you’re doing, and just stare out at the ocean with me
I grew up just minutes from the ocean
But I’ve been living in the shadow of these mountains for a long time
Such a long time
And I love to see the seasons change
(But sometimes I imagine I smell salt in the air)
A curved line in the sunshine and it hits me out of nowhere
I saw your outline in the sunshine and I never really had a prayer
I’m feeling landlocked
Got to get back down to the sea
We put down the car top, your hair blowing ‘round in the breeze
And I don’t miss the crowd, but the music is loud
It reminds me what a fool I used to be
So drop what you’re doing, and wade into the water with me
Drop what you’re doing, and dive into the ocean with me
